Lab Exercises in Astronomy: Star-Cluster Distances and the Dustiness of Space

Dust particles floating in interstellar space affect our distance measurements, particularly to distant star clusters. In this astronomy lab exercise, students will learn to take the dustiness of space into account while comparing distances to the M103 and Hyades star clusters.
